Garnier 5 second perfect blur vs Benefit “The Porefessional”

I received a sample of the Garnier 5 Second Blur product in my recent Bellabox and thought it might be a good product to compare to Benefit “The Porefessional”. The main difference in the early ingredients (ie the main ones) is that Porefessional has Cyclopentasiloxane.

Garnier 5 second blur; Dimethicone , Dimethicone Crosspolymer , Silica , Isododecane , Aluminum Hydroxide , Iron Oxides , Titanium Dioxide , Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate , F.I.L. B158823/1

Porefessional; Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Isononyl Isononanoate, Silica, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Isododecane, Phenoxyethanol, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Cyclohexasiloxane, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance (Parfum), Mica, Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Limonene, Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Triethoxycaprylylsilane, BHT.

Cyclopentasiloxane is a interesting ingredient – its very good at it’s temporary effect of creating a barrier to keep water in and is quite soothing as a result * (unfortunately the next ingredient of Dimethicone isn’t as soothing if you are sensitive to silcones)!

On first impression the Garnier is a opaque white crème and the Porefessional is a more ‘pink-beige’ flesh tone. The textures are quite different as well, the Garnier is much thick while the Porefessional blends and slips across the face quite naturally .

The Garnier is quite good at filling in the crevices of deep pores or wrinkle but the Porefessional is better and smoothing and evening out of skin tone (especially redness/dryness). As I tend to light rosacea I like the skin evening effects of the Porefessional but I’m very impressed by the Garnier in the deep pores around my nose. I can definitely see my self buying the Garnier for times by skin is less inflamed, and using the Porefessional at other times. The Garnier is substantially cheaper ($17 for 22ml vs  $34 for 22ml) and is a great option for a similar product at a lower price point but is not a dupe.

* “It is believed that cyclopentasiloxane may have some capacity to remove wrinkles, skin blemishes, or stubborn effects of rosacea. Cyclopentasiloxane is also considered an emollient that soothes and softens the skin by keeping moisture locked in. It may also correct dryness by preventing water loss and prevents scaling by holding more water on the skin’s surface. This chemical is also an excellent lubricant that sufficiently stretches water layers on the surface of the skin.

However, it is important to understand that the chemical does not nourish or exfoliate skin the way vitamin A or vitamin E would do. “
